Tips for the Best Cowboy Casserole
-
Use frozen tater tots straight from the freezer—no need to thaw.
-
For extra flavor, add crumbled bacon or jalapeños.
-
Make it spicy with chili powder or hot sauce in the beef mixture.
-
Swap cheddar for pepper jack or mozzarella for different flavors.
-
Turn it into a make-ahead freezer meal—assemble, cover, and freeze (then bake straight from frozen with extra time).
 Variations
-
Tex-Mex Cowboy Casserole: Add black beans, taco seasoning, and salsa.
