Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 24 colorful Peeps
- 2 cups M&Ms (preferably in Easter colors)
Instructions
- Preparation: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with tin foil, ensuring the sides are covered for easy removal. Lightly grease the foil with cooking spray or a dab of vegetable oil.
- Mix: In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, and vegetable oil. Stir until well blended. The mixture will be quite thick, resembling cookie dough.
- Bake the Base: Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly to cover the bottom. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 minutes. The base should be set but not fully cooked.
- Add Peeps: While the base is baking, cut the Peeps into small pieces for easier melting. Once the base has baked for 12 minutes, remove it from the oven and sprinkle the chopped Peeps evenly over the top. Return to the oven for an additional 5-6 minutes, or until the marshmallows are toasted and puffy.
- Top with M&Ms: Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle the M&Ms over the warm, gooey marshmallow layer. The heat will slightly melt the M&Ms, making them stick to the surface.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the Peep Bars to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, lift out using the foil edges and cut into bars. Store in an airtight container at room temperature to keep fresh.
