Description

Dive into the savory world of the French Onion Cob Loaf, a gourmet twist on the classic party dip. This dish transforms the traditional fare into a centerpiece of rich, caramelized onions and gooey cheese nestled in a crusty bread bowl, making it not just a dish but a showstopper at any gathering.

Ingredients

  • Olive oil: 1 tbsp
  • Bacon (diced): 150g
  • Cream cheese (softened): 500g
  • Sour cream: 300ml
  • Mayonnaise: 120g (½ cup)
  • Cheddar cheese (grated): 120g (1 cup)
  • French onion soup mix: 40g
  • Spring onions (thinly sliced): ½ cup
  • Chives (chopped): 2 tbsp
  • Large cob loaf (approx. 450g)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 180 degrees Celsius (fan-forced).
  2. Prepare the Cob Loaf: Cut off the top to create a ‘lid’ and hollow out the loaf, setting aside the bread pieces for dipping.
  3. Cook the Bacon: In a pan, heat olive oil and cook the bacon until crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Mix the Filling: Combine cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, grated cheese, French onion soup mix, spring onions, chives, and cooked bacon in a large bowl.
  5. Fill and Bake: Spoon the mixture into the hollowed loaf, replace the ‘lid,’ and bake on a tray for 30 minutes until the dip is warm and gooey. Stir every 10 minutes for even warming.
  6. Serve: Use the crispy bread pieces for dipping and enjoy immediately.
